ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA: CITIES OF MUSIC – NEW YORK

26 May 2017 Bela Bartok and Richard Strauss at the Athens Concert Hall

The Hungarian composer Bela Bartok left Europe and found a home in New York for the last years of his life, as many European artists who sought shelter away from the Nazis. Just before leaving Europe, Bela Bartok composed the “Violin Concerto No 2” which harmoniously combines the intellectuality with the emotional warmth.

Also in New York, the ‘’DOMESTIC” Symphony of Johann Strauss received its worldwide premiere. The work is an hymn for the family values and the simplicity of the daily life.

The Athens State Orchestra, wishing to make a tribute to these very important composers, included the above works in their concert which was realized at the Athens Concert Hall on the 26th May 2017.

The Artbassador provided the Athens State Orchestra with the music material of the works SYMPHONIA DOMESTICA OP.23 by Richard Strauss and VIOLIN CONCERTO NO.2 FOR ORCHESTRA by Bela Bartok, on behalf of the Publishing House Boosey & Hawkes Ltd.
