Mikis Theodorakis AXION ESTI and SYMPHONY NO 1

14 July 2015 ODEON OF HERODES ATTICUS – ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA

The Athens State Orchestra wishing to honor Mikis Theodorakis and participate in the celebrations of his 90th birthday (he was born on July 29th 1925), presented in collaboration with the Greek Festival, the composer’s magnificent work “AXION ESTI” as well as the grandiose “SYMPHONY NO 1” at the Odeon of Herodus Atticus, in the frame of the Athens Festival 2015.

With the participation of the Choir of the municipality of Athens, the Choir of the University of Athens and the Choir “Melodoi”. Soloists: George Dalaras, popular singer, Dimitris Platanias, baritone, with Akis Sakellariou as narrator. Loukas Karytinos conducted the Athens State Orchestra.

Our great composer’s work was deeply influenced by our post war history. He has put his indelible mark on our history and culture. His works whenever and wherever presented, rejuvenate us and reconnect us with sounds, melodies, emotions which are an important part of the historical and aesthetic identity of the Greek people.
