“Axion Esti” of Mikis Theodorakis at the Athens Concert Hall

Camerata Orchestra, Choir of the National Technical University and Choir “Melodoi”

Mikis Theodorakis’ work AXION ESTI has been characterized as a monument of contemporary Greek art by Maestro George Petrou, the conductor of the Camerata – The Friends of Music Orchestra. The work was presented on November 11th 2015 at the Athens Concert Hall by Camerata Orchestra, the Choir of the National Technical University (choirmaster: M. Oikonomou) and the Choir “Melodoi” (direction: G. Ziakas).

The Orchestra presented the original version of the work (1964), without any amplification at the symphony and vocal parts, so that the brilliant orchestration of the composer would emerge through the magnificent acoustic sound.

Soloists: Giannis Kotsiras, popular singer
Haris Andrianos, chanter
Narration: Aris Sakellariou

Moreover, at the same concert, the Camerata Orchestra performed two masterly pieces of composer’s youth period: “Love and Death”, four songs for Myrto on poetry by M. Theodorakis and L. Mavilis, and “Oidipous Tyrannos” (Oedipus the King), an ode for string orchestra, based on poetry by Odysseas Elytis, performed by mezzo soprano Theodora Baka.

The Artbassador provided the production company Pure Art with the musical material of the work “Axion Esti” on behalf of the publisher Schott Music and the music material of the work “L’ amour et la mort” on behalf of the publisher Breitkopf & Haertel.
