The picture of DORIAN GRAY

ballet, in choreography by Michael Pink and music by Tobias PM Schneid

A unique ballet premiere took place at the Augsburg Theater on December 1st, 2013, while twelve performances in total have been scheduled this season. For the choreography by Michael Pink, based on Oscar Wilde’s novel, Tobias PM Schneid used Chopin’s Waltz No 2 in A minor as point of departure to compose a new work that is extremely moving. Tobias PM Schneid was able to fulfill a long-cherished desire, as the subject is one that engaged him since his youth.

Oscar Wilde’s “The picture of Dorian Gray” first appeared in 1890 as a story in a monthly magazine. The writer later expanded the material, added new chapters and published the work as a novel in 1891. Whereas the book was deemed scandalous and immoral at the time, today we wonder if Wilde actually did justice to the questions of beauty, truth and love. Here, a subject is touched upon that has engaged people since time immemorial: the myth of eternal beauty.

Aesthetic enjoyment is guaranteed and the music, as always in ballet, promises to leave a lasting impression.
