“THE FLY” a scary opera by Howard Shore

The film composer Howard Shore and the producer David Cronenberg created in 1986 the Oscar-winning horror film THE FLY.

The film composer Howard Shore and the producer David Cronenberg created in 1986 the Oscar-winning horror film THE FLY. 22 years later, they met again over the same story and this time together with the librettist David Henry Hwang they created a two-act  opera. Shore composed a completely new score for the opera and Cronenberg took advantage of the possibilities of an opera production in order to highlight the singers on the stage.

 

The world premiere took place in Paris and further performances in Los Angeles with conductor Placido Dominco.

 

The opera received its first German performance on January 18th 2014 in Theater Trier. Seven performances follow the premiere through March 2014.
