ULSTER AMERICAN by David Ireland
At Athinon Theatre, since 2 October!
The artistic collaboration between three creators l who meet up on the eve of rehearsals of her new career-transforming ‘Irish’ play, due to premiere in London’s West End. But when it turns out that they’re not on the same page, the night threatens to spiral out of control.
But, as their misalignment becomes apparent, the evening teeters on the brink of chaos. Misogyny, sexual violence, identity politics, even cancel culture – nothing is off limits.
The stage is set for success but when they meet to discuss the play’s challenges and provocations a line is crossed, and their heated discussion quickly escalates into violence.
Exploring abuses of power, the confusion of cultural identity and the silencing of the female voice, Ulster American is confrontational and brutally funny – not for the faint of heart, and not to be missed.
