"Breaking the Waves" at first nationwide in NEW REX stage

One of the boldest choices of the National Theatre’s repertoire in this season

"Breaking the Waves" is definitely one of the boldest choices of the National Theatre’s repertoire in this season. At first nationwide in NEW REX, the theatrical version of the award-winning cinematic masterpieces of Danish Lars von Trier, is directed by Roula Pateraki, based on the translation of Adonis Galeos.

In the early 70s, in a small and remote village in the northern coast of Scotland, the sensational love of Bess and Jan, will clash against social stereotypes and be tested by life’s cruelty. The decisions and actions of this weird couple and their love story will eventually become the authors' hymn to love and faith.

Lars von Trier’s unorthodox glance in “Breaking the Waves” has been so famous to the Greek audience, that the play’s theatrical version was expected with tremendous interest by the theatergoers.  Performances started in February 2016.

The Artbassador has granted the license for the stage production of the play to National Theater on behalf of Nordiska - International Performing Rights Agency.
