A SIDEWAYS LOOK AT CLASSICISM

29 May 2021 ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA AT THE ATHENS CONCERT HALL STREAMING

The Athens State Orchestra, in collaboration with the Athens Concert Hall, will present via streaming on the youtube channel and social media, a concert dedicated to four musical eras and four composers who transcend time and place. A musical journey from the baroque of Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni to the jazz of Aaron Copland, and from Serge Koussevitzky’s work with its romantic and classical influences to the early romanticism of Franz Schubert.

Under the music direction of Ektoras Tartanis, the orchestra and the soloists Dimitris Vamvas and Stella Nikolaidi,(oboe), Spyros Mourikis, (clarinet), and Takis Kapogiannis, (double bass), will present the following works:

  • ''Concerto for 2 Oboes, Op.9 No.3" by Tomaso Albinioni (1671-1751).
  • ''Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra'', with Harp and Piano, by Aaron Copland (1900-1990)
  • ''Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra, Op. 3'', by Serge Koyssevitzky (1874-1951)
  • ''Symphony No. 5, D. 485'', by Franz Schubert (1797-1828).

The ARTBASSADOR, provided the Orchestra with the music material of the work of Aaron Copland,''Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra'', with Harp and Piano, on behalf of the Publishing House BOOSEY & HAWKES UK.
