It is with great interest that we are expecting the premiere of “MEPHISTO” on April the 25th, 2014 at the stage of “MARIKA KOTOPOULI” of “REX” theatre. The work is Klaus Mann’s novel (1936), in stage adaptation by Ariane Mnouchkine (1975), in greek translation by Louisa Mitsakou and direction by Nikos Mastorakis.

A cast of exceptional actors take part in the performance: Minas Hatvisavas, Alkis Panagiotides, Thanos Tokakis, Nikos Psarras, Alexander Logothetis, Vicky Volioti, Gioulika Skafida, Marina Aslanoglou, etc.

The story was written during the rise of Nazism in Germany of Middle War and refers to the adventures of a troupe’s members and the testing of their endurance, ideology and morality. As Nazism goes stronger, several of the troupe’s members will succeed in resisting, while others will not. One of them will not hesitate to ally with the “devil” to favour his career.

“Mephisto” or “Mephistopheles” is one of the chief demons in German literary tradition. He features in Goethe’s tragic play “Faust” as the Devil with whom Dr. Faust makes pact and exchanges his soul for eternal youth.

THE ARTBASSADOR has granted licence for the stage performances of the play, on behalf of ROWOHLT VERLAG and SACD, which manage the authors’ rights of Klaus Mann and Ariane Mnouchkine, respectively.
