SWEENEY TODD – the Demon Barber of Fleet Street

29 July 2017- 31 August 2017 Greek premiere of SWEENEY TODD the musical at Herodus Atticus Odeon by Orchestra Kamerata!

The greatest artistic achievement of Broadway, having won 8 prizes TONY (amongst them, the prize of the best musical) is being presented to the Greek audience in Greek, in music and lyrics of the greatest living legend of the American music theatre, Stephen Sondheim and book by Huge Wheeler.

George Petrou not only directed the said performance but also made the Greek translation of the book and lyrics, as well as the orchestra direction. The wonderful sets and impressive costumes were created by Paris Mexis and Georgia Germanou, respectively.

Kamerata Orchestra and George Petrou presented the famous musical Sweeney Todd, in a stunning production with 26 actors and opera singers and a symphonic ensemble of 35 musicians, on the 29th of July, at Herodus Atticus Odeon, in the frame of Athens Festival 2017. Due to its great success, the performance will be repeated at the same venue, on the 31st of August.

Cast: Charis Andrianos (Sweeney Todd), Nadia Kontogeorgis (Miss Lovette), Aris  Plaskasovitis (Tobias), Myrsini Margariti (Joanna), Christopher Stampoglis (judge Terpin) Giannis Kalyvas (Anthony), Giannis Christopoulos (Adolfo Pirelli), Anna Koutsaftiki (Beggar), Christos Kechris (Commissioner Bamford).

The tragic story of Sweeney Todd is being taken place in London of the 19th century, illustrating the dark aspects of human nature and society, enriched with large doses of black humor.
