Josef Weinberger started his publishing business in Vienna in 1885, by licensing performances of Strauss’ operettas, in association with Johann Strauss II. Since then, Josef Weinberger Ltd has expanded into several other musical genres such as contemporary classical, light orchestral, educational, brass and military band and religious, while among the Viennese operetta composers who are represented in the JW catalogue, are: Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Gounod, Strauss, Millöcker, Zeller, Kálmán, Oscar Straus, Stolz, Fall, Lehár, Offenbach and Sullivan.
More specifically, Josef Weinberger Ltd administers and licenses:
-A wide range of musicals through its catalogue.
-Concert hire catalogue ranging from classical works to songs and excerpts of musical theatre and operettas, for both professional and amateur use.
-Plays and pantomimes, including Ingmar Bergman’s works, on behalf of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation and the stage works of the Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar.
JW’s sister companies in Vienna (Josef Weinberger Music Publishing Vienna) and Frankfurt (Josef Weinberger Musikverlage) have developed repertoire for their own respective markets where leader in the field of production music library is JW Media Music Ltd.
Josef Weinberger is now working in partnership with MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL (EUROPE) http://www.mtishows.co.uk/ based at the same London office, as it was very successfully representing MTI’s prestigious catalogue of musicals for UK and other European countries, for thirty-five years.
The Artbassador proudly announces its agreement with Josef Weinberger Ltd, effective from September 2016, for Greece and Cyprus territories, in respect of theatrical (music theatre) works and its orchestral catalogue. Since September 2020, this representation covers also the full catalogue of Ingmar Bergman's works.
