SIAE

The " Societa Italiana degli Autori ed Editori-SIAE"  was founded in Milan on April 23, 1882, by writers, musicians, playwrights and publishers of the time.The first Board of Directors of the SIAE included historical names of Italian art and culture, as the famous Italian musician Giuseppe Verdi, Italian poet Giosuè Carducci, from Francesco De Sanctis to Edmondo De Amicis. During the period 1896-1926, SIAE  developed into a proper organization with a mandate to mediate the authors rights. Finally, in 1927, the company became officially  the"Italian Society of Authors and Publishers " with the mission to protect and administer authors' and publishers’ rights.

Today SIAE, Italy’s largest collective management organisation, is a public economic institution aiming the management of authors' rights, ranked sixth in the world ranking of Collecting Societies,  as confirmed by the data of the Global Collections Report 2020, published by CISAC (Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Auteurs et Compositeurs). Its activity expands in the whole sector of the cultural and entertainment business industry, protecting and managing the rights of creators in the fields of theatre, music, opera and ballet, visual arts & literature, cinema and radio- tv works. SIAE also supports the Italian cultural and creative industry with economic contributions for numerous artistic initiatives, and it is at the side of various social activities.

Every year SIAE grants more than 1.2 million of licenses for the use of its repertoire and collects fees for its over 80.000 direct members and foreign mandators, via membership and reciprocal representation agreements, accordingly. Its head office is located in Rome and its wide branch network is spread all over Italy.
