HAROLD AND MAUDE by Colin Higgins

A classic romantic comedy about the meaning of life and the ageless power of love!

A wonderful, sensitive and human story and one of the most unexpected and sincere loves in the history of theater. Harold and Maude, the masterpiece of Colin Higgins,  production of "HAPPY LIGHT PRODUCTIONS", directed by Sotiris Hatzakis, with original music by Michalis Delta, is hosted on the stage of the Νeos Akadimos/Athens since 31 October, in a unique performance full of emotion.

The play is an adaptation of the 1971 American film "Harold and Maude" based on Colin Higgins' screenplay, which was also published as a novel in 1971. The sweet comedy gained a loyal cult following and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 1997,  remaining one of the keystones of the New American cinema of the 1970s.

The charming love story of this unlikely couple began by a chance meeting at a funeral. Harold, a suicidal 19 year old boy obsessed with death, drives a hearse, tours funerals and rarely opens his mouth. His alienation has caused him to attempt suicide several times, though these incidents are more cries for attention than actual attempts. When he meets Maude, a delightfully wacky octogenarian who adores life and values every moment, he will change forever. He discovers the true meaning of life, realizing that this is the most precious gift of all. This romantic relationship becomes an ode to life, throbbing with love, spontaneity and liveliness, and captivates our souls from the very first moment!

In the starring roles, the marvelous Tania Tsanaklidou and Thanasis Tsaltabasis, accompanied by Alexandra Palaiologou, Vasilis Chalakatevakis, Eleni Vaitsou, Alexandros Chountas, Athina Karagioti and Dionysis Stravoravdis.

THE ARTBASSADOR has licensed the Greek production on behalf of the Estate of Colin Higgins c/o SAMUEL FRENCH.
