DEATH OF A SALESMAN by Arthur Miller

The tragedy of a man who gave his life, in pursuit of the American Dream.

One of the greatest plays of the 20th century, Arthur Miller’s classic masterpiece ‘’Death of a salesman’’, production of "ATHINAIKA THEATRA", is being hosted at the stage of Emporikon Theatre/Athens, since 25 October, under the direction of Giorgos Skevas .

Premiered on Broadway in 1949 and awarded with the Pulitzer Prize For Drama and Tony Award for Best Play, ‘’Death of a salesman’’ became one of the most profound classic dramas of the American theatre and even after 70 years it remains as relevant as ever.

Arthur Miller once said that Death of a Salesman was a “tragedy of the common man”. Willy Loman, an ageing traveling salesman, is a common man who spent his whole life chasing success and now sees everything he strived for collapse. Through a series of tragic soul-searching revelations of the life he has lived with his wife, his sons and his business associates, he realizes how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him. As he cannot accept reality, Willy turns to his delusions and escapes into dreamy reminiscences of an idealized past, in a desperate attempt to make sense of a world that once promised so much.
