Marquis Literary is the Literary Representation division of Marquis Entertainment.
Founded in 1996 on the belief that Canadian plays and musicals are relevant the world over, the company quickly became one of Canada’s leading play agencies. From the outset, the company focused on the representation and promotion of important Canadian theatrical plays, musicals and productions within Canada and internationally, aiming to foster growth and commercial development opportunities of these works and to expand the Canadian culture abroad.

Marquis Literary has to-date licensed 20,000+ performances over 2,500+ productions of the 200+ plays & musicals which represents. The company maintains longstanding associations with commercial and major regional theatre producers in more than 30 countries worldwide. Marquis has licensed Canadian theatrical work to theatre producers in nearly 50 countries including extended runs in the West End of London, Off Broadway, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Berlin, Sydney, San Francisco, Boston, as well as commercial runs in Toronto and regional runs in every major city in Canada, the US and Europe.

The company represents a select roster of 75 playwrights, lyricists and composers from across Canada internationally. Numerous important works by these established Canadian playwrights have figured prominently in the company’s repertoire, including several hits such as "Sexy Laundry" by Michele Riml and "Mom's the Word" by a collective of Authors, the two most popular plays for European audience of the past decade.

Since its premiere in 2004/2005 at the Belfry Theatre (Victoria, BC) and the Arts Club Theatre  (Vancouver, BC), "Sexy Laundry" has been presented continuously worldwide. Its hugely successful US debut in 2008 was followed by productions in Poland, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Germany, Mexico and Iceland, along with productions in development in France, Japan and it continues to play sold out shows throughout the world until today. The touching and hilarious story of Henry and Alice and their inspiring efforts to restore their marriage resonate with audiences of all ages. By turns poignant and laugh-out-loud funny, "Sexy Laundry" is a romantic comedy guaranteed to strike a deep and resounding chord.

The smash hit on three continents "Mom's the Word", an award-winning theatre piece, is a hysterically funny and deeply touching play about motherhood, written by six performer-moms, who have endured the agonies and ecstasies of parenting. Since its conception in 1993, the play became one of the most popular shows ever, enjoying numerous sold out runs and tours in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, a production in West End and several great ones in Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, Italy and many more countries.
